Baby Ultrasound Pictures
Here are some of the ultrasound pictures that we have had taken. As of this writing (December 28th) we are almost at 28 weeks. Full term is considered 40 weeks. The baby is dated from the end of the last menstrual cycle. Therefore, at the date of conception, the baby is already 2 weeks old - go figure!
The picture to the right is very early on in the pregnancy and the baby is just a little flutter. Some people think that the fetus at this stage is similar to a Mexican jumping bean. By about 13 weeks, the baby has developed almost everything that it will need. In the remaining 27 weeks things just get bigger. There is a great site on fetal development by week here.
During the 18 week ultrasound (below) we found out that we are having a girl (95% sure) and we have named her Julia. Oona had been doing well and did not suffer a lot of morning sickness, but was constantly taking medication to prevent it.
As we move into the third trimester we are all doing well. I can now feel the baby move and kick. Oona has been feeling this for a while, but we can now both feel it from the outside. When our cats lie on Oona's tummy they sometimes get strange looks on their faces when the baby moves. The other day Oona was napping when the phone rang and startled her. Julia took quite a jump at the same time.
The winter season, as well as the impending birth have put both Oona and I into nesting mode. We are busy getting the nursery ready, and collecting together all of the necessary bits that baby will require. We have been very fortunate in the number of friends that have had children and have loaned major pieces of equipment. Thank you all! Oona is planning to stop work in mid February, and has already reduced her office to 3 days and is not doing any on call shifts. I will post more pictures of Oona when they are taken, and of course pictures of baby Julia when she is born (ETA - March 23rd).
