More know Simpsons than Constitution - U.S. Life - MSNBC.com

More know Simpsons than Constitution - U.S. Life - MSNBC.com Americans apparently know more about “The Simpsons” than they do about the First Amendment. Only one in four Americans can name more than one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. But more than half can name at least two members of the cartoon family, according to a survey by the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum. One of the contributors to this result is the press themselves. Look at the story from MSNBC. It is not headed by a picture of the constitution and the freedoms, but instead it has a picture of The Simpsons, and names them all in a caption. We know the names! That is the point of the story! To be fair, the editor does list the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment as freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances. I found this other story on the same topic posted on LiveScience.com. At least the freedoms are listed in the third paragraph of the story. I'll let you interview 1000 Americans to find out from which source they are most likely to get their news.
